Signs Your Brakes Need Service

2020 Hyundai Palisade - Toronto, ON

Your car’s brakes keep you safe out on the road, allowing you to stop when you need to. Because of this, your brakes should always be in tiptop condition. But how do you know when your brakes need to be serviced? Keep the following signs in mind so you know when to bring your vehicle in to Downtown Hyundai for new brakes.

Your Car Makes Weird Noises When Braking

Whenever your vehicle vibrates during use, you can automatically assume that there is something wrong. Vibrations — or a pulsating brake pedal — when you’re trying to stop is typically associated with warped rotors. This can be caused by long periods of heavy braking, like trips down steep inclines or frequent towing.

The Brake Pads Look Too Worn

You should check your brake pads regularly to ensure they’re not too worn. You can see the pads through your car’s wheel spokes. The outside pad is pressed against a metal rotor. You should have at least a quarter of an inch of pad at any given time. If there is less than that, it’s time to get your brake pads inspected or replaced.

Your Vehicle Pulls to One Side

Does your vehicle seem to drift to one side or another when you brake? That’s a good indication that your brake linings are wearing unevenly. It could also be a sign that there is foreign matter in your brake fluid. Either way, you should bring your car in for a brake adjustment or new brake fluid.
